27.10.11

Here is some stuff I have been working on this week, a figure drawing in graphite on illustration board, I am currently trying to build up a bit of a portfolio of both concept design work and traditional work, and seeing I havent done much digital concept stuff, im working on producing some character sheets. So there is a work in progress of a character sheet, all in different stages of development. Our class assignment this week is to do a full illustration, I decided to to a battle scene :) It has been alot of fun so far, the challenge will be to keep it loose, and not make it look to rigid. I think I will go with the color scheme in the top right. enjoy

sketchbook update

A small sketchbook update for you guys. I went and drew my mate scott while he tattooed on the weekend which was alot of fun, seeing the whole process and set up. I painted in watered down gouache, all in a small moleskin, one is just a sketchbook and the other was a landscape watercolour book. The gouache worked alot better in the watercolour pad as you can see. Some head studies that I have done in the coffee shop and the life model portrait from last week, which was about 2 hours. The head studies are about 5 - 10 minutes done in ball point pen :)

Took a figure painting class over the summer with Zimou Tan, which was alot of fun, and I felt like I learned alot. First time I have really sat down and painted the model from life. The smaller oil studies are 11 x 14 canvas board and the 4 figure composition is 32 x 46 inches. Enjoy!

drawing!

Here is a quick little update, a couple of clothed figure drawing assignments, graphite on paper, and brush and ink. I had fun drawing wolverine, I think I might tackle some more in the near future. Also an isometric perspective illustration and a 45 minute quick study of a skull, which is oil on a 8x10inch board.
I was also lucky enough to run into Australian artist Rod Luff, setting up his show today in downtown sf, some amazing looking sketchbook pages and paintings to see there. It opens tomorrow night!

Life Drawing

Still Life update

Here are some work in progress shots of my first still life homework assignment. Its 16 x 16 inchs, oil on gesso board. I think i will sand down the background on the painting to make it nice and smooth, give a little more contrast between the more painterly objects and background.

Life Drawing

Here is a little dump of life drawings I have done earlier this semester. All of which are studies, with times ranging from 3 to 40 minutes. Using charcol on newsprint for all my figure studies at the moment.
